Excerpt from Eugenics

Eugenics is simply an application of modern science to im prove the human race. But, says the skeptic, that will take millions of years! Nevertheless, I reassert that it is easily practical to alter and improve the human race and to do so in a very short time.

Great book from one of the early proponents of U.S. eugenics. Two good supplements are 'For The Public Good' by Belle Boggs and 'The Social Direction of Evolution: An Outline of the Science of Eugenics' by William Kellicott. No study of Eugenics is complete without research of key individuals involved including: Francis Galton, Herbert Spencer, Karl Pearson, Harry H. Laughlin, Charles B. Davenport, as well as such institutions as The American Eugenics Society, the American Breeders Association, the Pan-American International Exposition. A good secondary resource is Stefan Kuhl's 'The Nazi Connection: Eugenics, American Racism & German National Socialism).

Eugenics Classic Reprint Irving Fisher 9781332125319 Books Reviews

I read online, this very short and bad book. This very short book was writen by American economist and eugenist Irving Fisher (1867 - 1947). In fact, to be very short, with just about 26 pages of text, is the only quality of this book. Repeated eugenics arguments and believes. Just a few things with use are in this book.
And in fact, God's hand cursed the Irving Fisher. His young daughter, Miss Margaret Fisher, became mad with schizophrenia in 1918. Looking for a cure, Irving Fisher went to Dr. Henry Andrews Cotton (1876-1933). This famous doctor was a quack. Irving Fisher, the author of this book had his daughter transferred to Dr. Henry Cotton. This quack attributed her condition to a "marked retention of fecal matter in the cecal colon with marked enlargement of the colon in this area" for which she was subjected to a series of useless colonic surgeries before dying of a infection, got from these useless surgeries, in 1919.
Years later God's hand went against the Dr Henry Andrews Cotton. His hundreds of victims, included even his own sons, Henry Jr. '30 and Adolph '31, stripped of their teeth as a "prophylactic measure" prior to their matriculation at Princeton University. Both killed themselves, some years later.
Being so short and being writen by Irving Fisher (1867 - 1947), I must give two stars for it. If this book would be bigger, I would give one star for it. I'll repeat shortness is the only quality of this bad book.
I don't know how much was selectively edited from this book, but it appears to have been. I guess I should be happy with what little I got out of it.
Good reading.
Eugenics covers much of its history in a way that gives the novice a clearer understanding of its ideology.
